Tamar Valley Steiner School has just expanded in partnership with Adventure Patch to provide a pre-kinder (early learning) program and before and after school care. This is also a new venture for Adventure Patch who have been providing education and care for nearly 40 years in southern and now northern Tasmania. Their education philosophy of adventure, bringing fun, mess and play back into learning aligns very well with Tamar Valley Steiner School’s early years curriculum.

The pre-kinder program is an innovation in Tasmania as the program will run alongside the school’s kinder program. Combined, this will provide two years of preschool education which is the ideal being embraced across Australia. Research conducted both in Australia and internationally has consistently demonstrated that commencing a high-quality preschool program at age 3, and participating in that program for two years, is one of the few proven strategies for improving cognitive, social, and emotional outcomes for children. Furthermore, the often substantial and sustained gains achieved by children who attend two years of preschool, allows more children to start compulsory schooling with the capabilities that they need for a successful first year of school and beyond.
